How to reconcile an incorrect stock figure
Noticing a stock figure is wrong is the easy part. Reconciling it properly means understanding why it's wrong before changing it - otherwise you're just replacing one guess with another.
Start with the movement history, not the current number
If every change to a SKU's stock is logged with a reason, a timestamp, and what triggered it, you can trace backward from "this looks wrong" to the specific sale, adjustment, or sync event that caused it - rather than just overwriting the number and hoping it stays right.
Check for the usual suspects
A listing that's linked to the wrong SKU, a sale that was recorded twice (or not at all), a purchase order received against the wrong item, or a stocktake that was applied without accounting for sales made during the count are the most common causes.
Fix the cause, then the figure
Correcting the stock number without fixing whatever caused the drift just means it happens again. Once the cause is identified, the adjustment itself should also be logged the same way any other stock movement is, so the next investigation (if there is one) has a complete history to work from.
How TrueSKU supports this
Every stock change is recorded with a reason, timestamp, and user or process attribution, specifically so this kind of reconciliation is possible without guesswork.
